Also in October, factors that could be responsible if your spouse is not talking to you enough or if he or she is not engaging you in meaningful conversations as expected were discussed in detail; a few of them will be summarized today. Mutual understanding can only come through in your marital relationship when there is enough information or knowledge about one another.
One of the major hindrances to the flow of information in a marital relationship is personality differences. Before concluding that your spouse doesn’t talk to you well enough, you have to know if he or she is an introvert (people who don’t talk about what they feel) or an extrovert (people who like to say their feelings just the way they are).
Another factor that could hinder the flow of information from your spouse to you is mis-management of information; when you use any information provided to you by your spouse against him or her or take undue advantage of the privilege information made available to you by your spouse. In any way, he or she might be very careful to discuss important issues in his or her life with you.
Knowledge or information is power, irrespective of how you choose to treat it. One good time deserves another, and whatever you do with the little details provided to you by your spouse determine the amount of information he or she can trust you with from time to time. For this reason, you should know what to do with privileged information.
The following are suggestions on how you can handle privilege information given to you by your spouse:
✓Treat every piece of information from your spouse as privileged information.
✓Treat all that is said by him or her as confidential, except when it involves a threat to life.
✓Appreciate him or her for trusting you enough to unburden you.
✓Encourage him or her when morale is low.
✓Invest in the discussion intellectually by joining him/her to think about the way forward on how to solve a problem.
✓Pray with your spouse whenever he or she shares a concern with you.
✓Don’t treat his or her openness as vulnerability but as strength.
✓Continue to respect and believe in him or her, irrespective of the concerns shared.
