  • WHAT LOVE IS NOT AND WHAT LOVE IS (EXTRACT FROM MAY TEACHINGS).

One of the major objectives that your courtship or marriage should achieve, among many others, is knowing how your marital partner is wired to receive love and how he or she is wired to give love, and vice versa.

Nevertheless, to start the journey, you must have a clear-cut understanding of the concept of love itself, which we started in May by knowing what love is not. This is because knowing what love is not can give us easy access or insight into knowing what love truly is, as the wrong definition of love in most cases is usually the basis for many failed marital relationships.

In May’s teachings, love was defined as a consistent force of attraction that is potent enough to stir commitment in a person towards one another in a romantic or affectionate manner. Love does not vary like waves in an ocean, the way and manner in which emotions and feelings do; hence, love is neither feelings nor emotions but a lifestyle that is principle-driven and results-oriented, for God is constant and consistent in nature, and He is love.

In fairness, most marital relationships start from the point of attraction, and there is nothing wrong with it as much as the parties involved are able to commit to one another beyond their attraction, for infatuation is a weak romantic force that cannot sustain the weight of a blissful marriage. Likewise, it was said in May’s teachings that love is commitment. Commitment is therefore the act of paying the price tag that is required to make a marital relationship achieve its actual goal of “happily ever after.”.
