Yesterday, it was concluded that as much as understanding is important to marital success, communication will only yield relevant feedback, when barriers to effective listening are identified and eradicated (please see yesterday devotional for details).
One of the barriers to effective listening is prejudice; prejudice happens when you already have a preconceived idea or notion about your spouse or subject of your discussion, this does not help you to listen to your spouse with the clear intention of understanding him or her as required. For you to enjoy effective listening in your marital relationship, you have to intentionally shun whatever anybody has told you ahead what your spouse has to say, give your spouse a benefit of doubt at all time in your communication until he or she is proven wrong.
